The 'I Can Do This' Attitude To More Resilience

Resilience is your ability to overcome challenges and difficulties that we will experience as part of life. I like to remind my clients that;

 

‘Life is a contact sport, It’s how you get back up and carry on that will define the outcome of your game of life.’

 

To successfully bounce back from the difficulties, we face in life; we have to develop the right attitude. 

 

Possessing an ‘I Can Do This’ attitude increases our likelihood of success when we face challenges and increases the possibility of us responding to them in a more healthy way. 

 

By really mastering the ‘I Can Do This’ attitude as part of our internal resilience tool kit, it dramatically improves your overall resilience levels significantly.

In this blog post, I am going to cover 5 way you can develop your ‘I Can Do This’ attitude; 

Be More Optimistic

Optimism is the ability to see the positives in a negative situation and the ability to not to dwell on them. There will always be two sides to any situation; Good & Bad. You just don’t need to spend too much time attached to either. It’s about balance and seeing that negatives are temporary and you can always take steps to create a positive outcome. This leads to empowerment and creates the ‘I Can Do This’ attitude of resilience. 

Heading - Know your self-worth

Selfworth is defined by Merriam-Webster as: “A feeling that you are a good person who deserves to be treated with respect” and it starts with you! Other people in our life will support and challenge us. Some have decided what they can or cannot do, and they may try to place the same limitations us. By believing in yourself even when nobody else does, you will accomplish what no one else will. Trust your instincts and know that ‘I Can Do This’ and you will. 

Grow Your Confidence

According to research, individuals who possess a high level of trust in their abilities are better able to manage stress and bounce back from trauma. When you have confidence in your ability to overcome any situation you are faced with, you overcome it because of the strength and confidence you possess in yourself. Ultimately, when you believe you can do a thing, chances are you will!  

Be A Goal Setter

It is the skill of looking at a goal and breaking it down into smaller bits that can make you feel like you can achieve anything. This is the same for the challenges in our life. How can it be broken down? What small step can you take now? When you take action on these smaller goals and see yourself making progress it builds momentum. The better you get at it, the bigger goals you start to tackle as you know that ‘I Can Do This’!

Develop Self Awareness

Self Awareness helps us to gain a deeper understanding of our behaviours, actions, thoughts, feelings, and motivations. When we uncover what drives our thoughts, feelings, and actions, we then develop more control. When we know why we do what we do, we can make better decisions to help conquer the challenges you face and learn from the experience. You are better able to handle similar situations in the future and even help others to do the same!  

 

Ultimately, the development of an ‘I Can Do This’ attitude will help you build your skill of resilience in many different ways.

 

As you strive to be more optimistic, know your self-worth, grow your confidence, and to set SMART goals (Specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely) all whilst becoming more self aware, you will improve your belief that ‘I Can Do This’ when faced with the challenges that will come your way as part of the game of life. 

 

It is this attitude that will give you the strength you need to continue pressing forward when the going gets tough, and it is this attitude that will ultimately help you overcome the challenges that will make you the best version of you can be!
